WE DID OUR FIRST SHOOT TODAY! OH YEAH!
So it went pretty well apart from the fact that both the batteries we had been given were not charged, and so we had to wait about for AGES for them to charge before we could go out. As it was outside for the orchard location, lack of light was a bit of a problem because by the time we'd charged the battery up the sun was going down. But we got some really good and interesting shots and we're going to begin editing it tomorrow in the lesson. We also discovered that cars are a problem when doing really long shots of the field as you can see them going by through the trees at the end, but hopefully we'll find a way to edit them out. But I'm sure we'll figure it out.

A wet result
After experimenting with water droplets from the hand and from a squeezed cloth.
We then put the footage onto the prem, ier p[rogramme and the result was successful. We think that the footage will be slowed down and look good for the video as a whole. However,we may try the same shots with syrup!
peace out

'The creation of the animatic'
After finishing our story-board, we filmed each shot for 4 seconds. We then captured all of the takes into premier, where they were put next to each other to run like a film.Next we cut each shot in the times that we wanted to do them, with the guidance of the track playing over the top. Finally, we added the music,so that the animatic runs fluently in time, and posted it onto 'Youtube'.
LT - Animatic
Click here to view our animatic!
Creating the animatic was very helpful as it indicates to us where every shot changes with the music and we were able to familiarise ourselves with the editing software. We think the animatic looks really good, but it was difficult at times to get the shot changes in time. We have realised that some of the shots are quite long and so we are going to have to film lots of filler shots in order to cut those up a bit and fill up the time. We used transitions at some points in the animatic to show the sort of movement etc. we want to include, and also wrote over the top of some shots in order to convey what we wanted to do. It was worthwhile as we can now see what our video will look like and it feels like its really coming together. Now we just need to do our filming next weekend and during the week, and start editing!

characterisation
Creating a persona for the female character of our video has been purely based on our own knowledge from televsion.
From watching films like 'Halloween'(new version), we see footage of mochael myers as a child, being kept in an asylum. This conotes psychological problems to the viewers, along with the plain white clothing.
However, the woman used for 'The Ring' has simlar conotations, and liz and i particularly like the effect of her being soaked in water. Therefore, we can use water on the floor for reflection and interesting close ups. Connected with this, we have also discussed using gus van sant's style of filming for inspiration for the films 'Elephant' and 'Last Days'. However, his slow moving stlye and long shots is usually suported by natural sounds, whereas ours is supported by a music track, which could make for an interesting experimentation.
Also, the music video for 'Young Bride' by Midlake, shows an insight into the mind and thoughts of a woman who is unwell in her bed. However, we see her escaping into the wild, wandering as if she is loking for something new. Her mysterious wander attracts the viewer, and her persona is one that we wil use towards creating our chracter.

LT - Change?
Kris and I have had a bit of an epiphony this weekend, a breakthrough. We've kind of decided that we'd like to change our idea, our song and our video idea. We've storyboarded about the first two and a half minutes of it and we think it'll really work, it's much more conceptual based than our other idea, with no performance shots. However we feel that the locations are much more accessible (one of them being right outside my house), there are less risks and problems to overcome (we won't need to take lighting outside, and so we won't have the problem of the weather) and that our video will be much more successful and creative than with our original idea.
Here is the basis of our second idea:
- The song is Pioneer to the Falls by Interpol, an enigmatic, quite eerie track with guitars and a lead singer. The dynamics of the song are interesting as it builds up to loud epic parts and in other parts you can just hear the singer with no backing instruments.
- The conceptual/narrative idea for the video follows a girl in a white room (possibly a squash court or a photography studio which we may have access to) with jagged lines on one wall. For some reason she is intrigued, tempted, fascinated and frustrated by the lines, she touches them but they cause her some kind of battle within herself.
- Other locations include an orchard, in which she follows the lines on the tree bark, causing her the same sense of frustration, and in which seems to get lost - maybe losing her mind? Also possibly a big open, empty field in my village which could be used to show her finally losing it.
- The video will cut between these two/three locations, showing her frustration, anger and fear.
- There could also be a section in which she is the one drawing the lines on a surface, maybe a concrete floor or something, as though she is trying to crack a code?
We reckon that we could do some really interesting shots with this idea and it would be much more interesting to shoot than our original plan. However, we don't know whether we're allowed to change it so late into the planning stage. We'll see!

planning review # 3 - CF
Well done - a creative pitch. Excellent choice of track, combination of narrative and performance is a suitable response, good use of practice shots to inform your idea, links made to primary and secondary research.
You do now need to think your idea through carefully in order to storyboard. This must be largely before Christmas.
Liz - excellent contributions to blog.
Chris - technical analysis is good, however you are still missing two product analysis.
